Here are our recommendations for encouraging users to log in.

Accengage

Below is the generic method for targeting logged out users.

  • Go to Targeting tab > Segment and add a new “campaign segment”.

  • Add the attribute based on the custom criteria “Customer ID” equals “empty space”. The name of your criteria may vary depending on your integration.

  • Go to the Actions tab > Push notifications and click on new message to create your notification.

  • Complete the form and choose your segment in "campaign segments" at the bottom of the page.
    If everything is good, test your message and then schedule your message for a daily send.

 

Airship

The first step is to make sure that during the SDK implementation, the technical team set a tag at login. Thus, as soon as a person logs in, the tag is automatically added to the profile.

There are different methods to encourage users to log in from the application.

Before you start, here is a reminder of the definitions of the points that will be discussed:

  • Tags are sets of data on a device or a user. They allow you to track the attributes or the behavior of the user.

  • Custom events allow you to track user activities and key conversions in the application or from your site, linking them to the corresponding mobile engagement campaigns.

1/ Single send

  • Create a segment to target the users that don’t have a logged-in tag. The tag name can differ depending on how you call it. To do so, go to Audience > Segment and create a segment.

  • Give a name to your segment and search for the “Logged-in” tag. Select “False”. This means that the segment will target all the users that don’t have the “Logged-in” tag. Then save it.

  • When you’re choosing which message type to send, select the “Message” option.

  • In the first part of the Composer Setup, select your channels, then go to Explore > Segments > Logged-out users (the name of your segment could be different).

  • Once you have selected your targets, create your message. Then add your message content, determine the delivery settings and finalize the message by following all the steps.

  • When you are satisfied with your message, review everything and send/schedule your message.

2/ Automated message

For this scenario, you must track the logged-out tag.

  • When you’re choosing which message type to send, select the “Automation” option.

  • Select the trigger “Tag Change”, select the tag “Logged-out” and choose the option “send when tag is Added”.

  • Select the specific options you want to apply for your automation

  • Select your channels, create your message. Then add your message content, determine the delivery settings, and finalize the message form by following all the steps.

  • When you are satisfied with your message, review everything and start your automation.

3/ Journey

A journey is a series of messages that are initiated by a single automation trigger. Think of a journey as a timeline, with each message in the journey separated by some amount of time. Airship sends the messages in a journey to your audience in order, as long as your audience continues to meet the conditions to receive messages in the journey.

You can set the events and conditions that will cause a user to exit a journey and prevent Airship from delivering the remaining message(s).

For this scenario, you must track the logged-out tag and associate it to the profile from the 1st opening.

  • When you’re choosing which message type to send, select the “Journey” option.

  • Select the trigger “Tag Added” and choose the number of days you want to trigger the automation.

  • Select the options you want to apply for your automation.

  • If you choose to skip the next step in the outcome page, all the messages of the journey will be delivered.

    • Alternatively, you can also select the Cancellation outcome to stop the sending of the remaining messages. You need to add an event as a cancellation (the tracking of the event “Logged-in” requires actions from your developers).

  • Choose to target people that don’t have the tag “logged-in”

  • Choose your message name and your channel coordination preferences.

  • Compose your message and choose your delivery condition.

  • Once you reviewed your message, you can start your journey or you can add another message to enrich your inactivity journey. To do so, choose your conditions and the delay between each message.

Best Practices

  • Feel free to combine in-app and push messages via a journey to encourage users to log in.

  • You can trigger in-app on a particular page that needs the user to be logged in to access the features.

  • You can send a message to all logged-out users when a new feature is released.

  • In your encouraging messages, do not hesitate to indicate why it is in the user’s best interests to log in.
