Reach production certificate requirements

In order to create and distribute passes using Urban Airship Reach, you must have your own Apple Pass Type certificate and Android Pay certificate uploaded to your account. While Android Pay integration is initiated by Urban Airship, Apple Wallet integration must be completed by you. This article assumes you have the Urban Airship Apple Pass Type trial certificate uploaded to your account.

The Urban Airship trial certificate is meant for testing only and should not be used to create and distribute passes for a live audience. There are a few reasons why this is so:

  1. You will be on the same certificate as anyone else doing Reach trials. This means your pass will be grouped with any other passes created with the Urban Airship certificate inside Apple Wallet.
  2. Apple requires companies to provide their own contact details on the back of their live passes. These details are derived from the Apple certificate uploaded to the account. If the Urban Airship trial certificate is used to create a pass, the contact information on the pass will list Urban Airship's information, which is needed to comply with Apple’s Terms of Service. Apple may revoke non-compliant passes at any time.
  3. If Urban Airship needs to revoke the trial certificate for any reason, you will be unable to access passes that were created under our certificate.
  4. You will be dependent on Urban Airship to renew the certificate every year.

If you need assistance with creating a certificate, please reference the article titled How to Make an Apple Pass Type Certificate below or contact Urban Airship Technical Support. Once you've uploaded your own certificate, you will be compliant with Urban Airship and Apple's requirements.
